Sustainability

I'm really excited that there is so much interest in continuing to learn and grow in the dance in the community right now, so I'm willing to work pretty hard to see this happen.

In an effort to actually see these classes become sustainable, I've decided to require a minimum number of advanced sign-ups per class. If we don't get enough sign-ups for a particular class, it WILL BE CANCELED, and re-attempted at a later date. Sign up fees are refundable or deferrable in the event of cancellation.

Pre-Requisites

The aim of Level 3 is to offer more advanced material to those who are ready for it, and who have already digested most if not all of the material offered in the Level 2 classes. The classes will be geared to those who have dicided to make a commitment to the art form, and the culture and really dig into the joy, creativity and mechanics of the Swing dances. For that reason they'll be a good bit more detailed and technique oriented.

General Level 3 Benchmarks

The following benchmarks should allow you to assess your level of comfort to see if you are ready to jump into the Level 3 classes. Depending on where you are, you might be a perfect fit, need a refresher, need more social dance experience, or maybe another 6 months of study.

  • You are comfortable with the basics mechanics of swingouts, circles, turns, tuck turns, texas tommy, and are gaining comfort mixing 6 and 8 count patterns.
  • You have been social dancing regularly for 6 months or more, and are beginning to focus more on connecting with your partner and feeling the music than where your feet are going.
  • You have started to develop a sense of fluidity, phrasing and rhythm, and consciously dance 'to' the music rather than 'over' the music.
  • You feel that the level 2 class isn't giving you a lot of new information or moves too slowly
  • You are hungry for more ideas, and more vocabulary and are excited to work on them on your own and on the social dance floor

If you are struggling to meet these benchmarks, the class instructor may ask that you spend more time at Level 2 before joining the Level 3 class.
